Skalny Luncheon Seminar on the Polish identity of writer Joseph Conrad

TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: Noon Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the Gamble Room of Rush Rhees Library on the University of Rochester's River Campus

ADMISSION: Free and open to the University community; lunch will be provided. Reservations are requested by Feb. 12 to x5-9898.

Wieslaw Krajka, a professor at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland, will speak on "Joseph Conrad's Polishness." Krajka is currently Kosciuszko Foundation Fellow in the University of Rochester's English Department and a Skalny Center visiting professor. He is an expert on the life of Polish-born Conrad, who was born Teodor Józef Konrad Korzeniowski. The talk will examine Conrad's upbringing, support for an independent Poland after World War I, and his expressions of Polish identity through his novels and political essays.

The event is co-sponsored with the Department of English. Luncheon seminars are part of the Skalny Center's continuing Skalny Lecture and Artist Series, which offers lectures, films, musical performances, and other presentations about Poland and Central Europe.
