The Rochester Teen Poetry Slam Finals is part of a collaborative effort between the Warner School of Education and performance poet Reenah L. Golden to bring "Rethinking English: Spoken Word Poetry in Urban High School Classrooms" to the School of the Arts, Wilson Magnet, Edison, and Writers & Books. By tapping into their personal talents, interests, and youth popular culture, high school students have spent the past several months creating their own works of poetry and developing their work into performance pieces for the Poetry Slam.

Join us on Saturday, March 31, to celebrate, support, and cheer on the new generation of young poets as they show off their personal talents. Students will perform in a mock Olympic-style poetry competition and will be judged on quality of the poem and strength of the performance. The winning team will receive a trophy and the top six individual winners will advance to the Regional Slam in New York City. The event will be emceed by Reenah L. Golden and will include a live DJ and guest poets.

Funding for this event and team preparation has been provided by an Edith Glick Shoolman Children's Foundation grant through the Warner School, a School Arts Partnerships grant from Partners for Arts Education, and a grant from the John F. Wegman Foundation.
