Jean Pedersen, associate professor of history, will discuss the interactions between men and women in the Union for Moral Action, a group of academics, activists, journalists, novelists, and philanthropists formed in 1892 in France. The case is part of her current book project, The Gender of Truth, which explores the roles of men and women as public intellectuals in France between 1890 and 1914 as a way of furthering understanding of modern French political culture.
