The sizzling rap act The Roots will play at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Louis Alexander Palestra on the River Campus.

The Roots are a six member hip-hop ensemble that relies not on DJ's or sampling, but on flowing rhymes, jazzy instrumentation, and drums, to create their "organic sound." This Philadelphia-based group started out in 1987 playing on street corners and at local talent shows, which lead to performances in Germany and Europe, where they were known for blowing audiences away with their live sets.

They have several albums out, including Organix, Illadelphia Halflife, and the hit single Keep it Real. Their latest album, Things Fall Apart, was released in early 1999 on MCA records. The group has performed at popular concerts with rap acts such as the Pharcyde and Cypress Hill on the Smokin' Grooves Tour, as well as at Lollapalooza.

Tickets are available at the Common Market in Wilson Commons on the River Campus and at Record Archive, 1394 Mt. Hope Ave. Tickets for the general public are $17 for bleacher seats and $19 for floor seats. The event is sponsored by UR Concerts.
