The University of Rochester's Department of Music in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering will feature a variety of ensembles during Meliora Weekend Thursday, Oct. 18, through Sunday, Oct. 21.

Highlighting the celebration will be a powerful musical event featuring world-renowned pianist Zora Mihailovich and Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait with special guest narration by Bishop Gregory Parris, accompanied by the University of Rochester's Symphony Orchestra, as they pay tribute to President Abraham Lincoln's memorable life. That free concert will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester's River Campus. The concert is open to the public.

Mihailovich, artist-in-residence in the University of Rochester's music department, will be accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra for César Franck's "Symphonic Variations."

Other ensemble concerts featured during Meliora Weekend will include a joint concert by the University of Rochester Chamber Orchestra and the University of Rochester Wind Symphony at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, in Strong Auditorium on the River Campus, and a performance by the University of Rochester Gospel Choir, directed by Rev. Alvin Parris III, at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, in the Interfaith Chapel on the River Campus.

The University of Rochester's Meliora Weekend is a blend of traditional events such as class reunions, family weekend, and homecoming with a variety of lectures, panel discussions, and performances.
