WHO: The Association of Interest in the Indian Subcontinent, a student group at the University of Rochester, invites the community to their cultural expo.
TIME, DATE, PLACE: 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, Douglass Dining Center. The event offers free admission and is open to the public.
WHAT: The South Asian Expo is an annual event to promote awareness by educating the community about South Asian culture. The program features interactive activities where participants can purchase Indian cuisine from local vendors including Thali of India, listen to popular music, or have mehendi (henna) designs applied by students. The event will also have dance performances by student groups Roc the RAAS and Bhangra, who recently took home 1st and 2nd place trophies during the Muqabla South Asian Dance Competition at the University of Buffalo. Community group Rochester Kids Bhangra will also perform. The backdrop to the event is that of a modern museum, presenting what life in South Asia looks like today through booths providing information on pop culture, literature, and politics.
PARKING: Parking is available at the Library Lot. Douglass Dining Center is located in the Fredrick Douglass Building, located to the left of Rush Rhees Library.
