More than 360 boys and girls ages 9 to 14 will build and race Lego robots in the fourth annual Finger Lakes FIRST LEGO League Tournament Series this Sunday. The championship tournament will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 7, in the Goergen Athletic Center on the University of Rochester's River Campus.
This year, children in 36 teams from the Rochester region and across the world are using their Lego contraptions to research and consider the costs, benefits, and impacts associated with issues surrounding climate change, including greenhouse gases, wildlife, and preparations for climate conditions.
Using Lego bricks, children work alongside adult mentors to design, build and program robots to solve real-life world challenges. After eight intense weeks, the competition season culminates in the high-energy, sports-like tournament.
