Local High School Students Get a Jump-Start on College Through the University of Rochester

Ten local students from the Rochester City School District have been awarded PLUS scholarships to enroll in undergraduate courses through the University of Rochester's Taste of College program. For over twenty years, this prestigious academic program has offered high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get a jumpstart on their college careers by taking actual college courses for credit alongside undergraduate students. "These impressive students were chosen based on academic performance, school recommendation, essay submission, and personal interview," said Lisa Vaccaro, program manager for the Taste of College program.

Partners in Learning—University and Schools (PLUS) is a scholarship award program for outstanding Rochester City School District students that provides full tuition and books for a class of the selected student's choice. PLUS students enroll in regularly scheduled undergraduate courses through the University's Taste of College Program. PLUS scholars are highly motivated Rochester City School District juniors or seniors who maintain excellent academic records throughout high school. Along with a desire to expand their learning beyond the traditional high school curriculum, students must have strong recommendations from guidance counselors or teachers. This year's scholarship winners include:

About Taste of College
The University of Rochester's Taste of College program has been encouraging motivated high school students to begin their college career at one of the top private research universities in the nation. After a selective admissions process, rising high school juniors and seniors earn college credit in undergraduate courses not offered at the high school level to pursue more rigorous and unique academic challenges. Students enrolled in the Taste of College program expand their knowledge, gain early experience of what college is like prior to attending full time, and begin college with credits and the confidence to succeed.
