WHO: Students in grades 9-12 from the greater Rochester area learn from professors and leading local educators while participating in the Rochester Scholars pre-college program at the University of Rochester.

DATE, PLACE: Session A: July 13-24 (2 weeks), Session B: July 27-31 (1 week), River Campus and Medical Center

WHAT: Given a chance to experience college life, students will attend classes tailored to specific fields of interest ranging from computer science and digital art to biology and medicine. The program also includes a residential component for some students; they'll live in dorms and eat in dining halls. Move in day is Sunday, July 12 for Session A and Sunday, July 26 for Session B. Courses are not for credit, but provide an educational experience in a fun, enriching manner.

Session A (July 13-24)
What's Up Doc?: Exploring the Pre-med Experience -
Students examine medical equipment and learn the ins and outs of the medical profession.

Build a Mobile Robot - Sensors, motors, computer programming, robot design, and construction come together in this hands-on workshop.

Express Yourself! Creative Writing Using Today's Latest Technologies - Students develop a piece of writing using new media including blogs, wikis, podcasts, and traditional print.

Final Presentations (Friday, July 24 from 12-1 p.m., May Room) - Students present what they have learned over the course of the week.

Session B (July 27-31)
Brainiac! The Basics of the Brain, Nerves, Synapses, and Circuits -
Students build a circuit of neurons to see how the brain works and learn how neurologists check a brain without seeing it.

How to Beat Dr. House at His Own Game! - Amber lies in the ICU, her heart racing. What's next? Students make quick decisions to save the patient.

Rochester CSI - Crime solvers study fingerprints, artificial blood, and DNA to solve this ultimate whodunit.

Warfare: Past, Present, and Future - Through art, film, poetry, and tactical reenactments, students will explore the age-old craft of war from the Spartans of Greece to the U.S. Marines.

Final Presentations (Friday, July 31 from 12-1 p.m., May Room) - Students present what they have learned over the course of the week.
