EVENT: During a graduation ceremony for Rochester Urban Fellowship and Rochester Youth Year participants, Rochester-area college students will hear remarks from Rochester Mayor Robert J. Duffy, as well as give presentations on their work throughout their fellowship experience.

TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, Council Chambers at City Hall (30 Church Street)

WHAT: Researchers argue that members of the Millennial generation are the most civic-minded since the 1930s and 1940s. Local college students proved that by participating in the Rochester Center for Community Leadership's Urban Fellowship and Rochester Youth Year Fellowship programs.

About the Rochester Urban Fellowship

The Rochester Urban Fellowship is an urban-immersion, civic engagement program for college students. Participants may attend a Rochester-area college, or may be Rochester residents attending college elsewhere. Urban Fellows spend ten weeks during the summer working at various community-based organizations, and convene one day a week for seminar-style discussions of urban issues. More than 100 students have completed the program since its inception, including 17 in 2009. The program receives support from the Rochester Community Foundation and the Eastman Kodak Company.

About the Rochester Youth Year Fellowship

The Rochester Youth Year Fellowship is an AmeriCorps*VISTA program designed to afford recent graduates from Rochester-area colleges the opportunity to remain in Rochester and work with selected youth-serving agencies, in order to alleviate poverty and improve opportunities for youth and their families. Five Rochester Youth Year Fellows will complete their year of VISTA service in August. Rochester Youth Year is coordinated collaboratively by the following area colleges: Nazareth College, Roberts Wesleyan College, SUNY Geneseo, The College at Brockport, St. John Fisher College, and the University of Rochester.
