WHO: The University of Rochester's incoming freshmen class along with their parents move carloads of belongings into their new homes at the Eastman School of Music and on the River Campus on Monday and Tuesday.

TIME, DATE, PLACE: 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 24 at the Eastman School (100 Gibbs Street) and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Susan B. Anthony Residence Hall (off of Library Road) on the River Campus, followed by the College Celebration at 5 p.m.

WHAT: Throughout the two days, more than 1,000 students will move into the downtown Eastman Commons and the four residential halls on the River Campus in anticipation of the new academic year.

Move-In Day also marks the beginning of Orientation, a time for students to learn the campus, explore opportunities for involvement in extra-curricular activities, and attend luncheons, barbeques, and receptions where they can meet their peers. The University also has an Orientation program designed for parents, which features seminars and workshops about residential life, student activities, and resources available to parents. In addition to picnics and information fairs, students at Eastman's Orientation can attend academic advising sessions and performances by seasoned students. During the College Celebration at 5 p.m., President Joel Seligman, along with deans from the College, will welcome the newest Yellowjackets to the River Campus.

On the River Campus, the freshmen class boasts 1,075 students, with 47 percent from New York State. Ninety students in the class are from outside of the United States. Total enrollment for the 2009-2010 academic year is 4,350 students. At Eastman, 140 freshmen will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 31.
