WHO: University of Rochester students plan an afternoon of activities for children from the South Avenue and Cobbs Hill Recreation Centers.

TIME, DATE, PLACE: 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2 at the South Avenue Recreation Center (999 South Ave).

WHAT: 'Be the Change Day' is a celebrated activity on college and university campuses across the country. The volunteer event is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's famous words, "be the change you wish to see in the world," and this year's organizers were motivated to create connections and serve as role models to children in the community.

Afternoon activities include an introduction from Steve Houston from Pathways to Peace, kickball games, arts and crafts, and gardening and landscaping projects in the center. In addition, children will see two presentations, one from Youth One Body about life in Rochester and another, about life at college, by the students from the University's International Living Community. To close the afternoon, students will hear remarks by Tony Jordan, former National Football League player and president of the Tony Jordan Youth Sports Foundation.

'Be the Change Day' is organized through the Rochester Center for Community Leadership, and undergraduate student group the Association for the Development of Interest in the Indian Subcontinent (ADITI) and the Sigma Beta Rho fraternity.
