WHO: The University of Rochester's incoming freshmen class, along with their parents, move carloads of belongings into their new homes at the Eastman School of Music and on the River Campus.

TIME, DATE, PLACE: 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 23, at the Eastman School (100 Gibbs Street) and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Susan B. Anthony Residence Hall (off of Library Road) and the Quad residence hall buildings (Tiernan, Hoeing and Gilbert Halls on Faculty Road, Fraternity Road and Wilson Boulevard) on the River Campus, followed by the College Celebration at 5 p.m.

WHAT: Throughout the two days, more than 1,300 students will move into the downtown Eastman Commons Student Living Center and the four residential halls on the River Campus in anticipation of the new academic year.

Move-In Day also marks the beginning of Orientation, a time for students to learn the campus, explore opportunities for involvement in extra-curricular activities, and attend luncheons, barbeques, and receptions where they can meet their peers. The University also has an Orientation program designed for parents, which features seminars and workshops about residential life, student activities, and resources available to parents.

In addition to picnics and information fairs, students at Eastman's Orientation can attend academic advising sessions and performances by seasoned students. At 11:15 a.m., students will be addressed by Jamal Rossi, executive associate dean at Eastman, who will introduce students to campus.

During the College Celebration at 5 p.m., President Joel Seligman, along with deans from the College, will welcome the newest Yellowjackets to the River Campus.

On the River Campus, the freshmen class boasts close to 1,200 students, with 40 percent from New York State. About 135 students in the class are from outside of the United States. The out-of-state and international figures are new highs for the University, and the class size is the second largest ever and the largest since 1992. Total enrollment for the 2010-2011 academic year is about 4,650 students, reflecting an average growth rate of five percent per year since 2003, due to increases in both retention and recruitment. At Eastman, 135 freshmen will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 30.
