WHAT: The University of Rochester's annual Winterfest Weekend kicks off the spring semester with stand-up comedian and popular game show host Howie Mandel.

TIME, DATE, PLACE: 9 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester's River Campus

BACKGROUND: Howie Mandel has been Hollywood mainstay for more than three decades, acting in television and films, as well as on stage. He starred in "St. Elsewhere" and created the popular children's cartoon "Bobby's World," has his own syndicated talk show, and gained recent notoriety as the host of "Deal or No Deal.

Tickets are $8 for University of Rochester undergraduates (with I.D.), $15 for graduate students and university employees, and $25 for the general public. Tickets, which are already on sale for the undergraduate students, will be available to graduate students, faculty, staff, and the general public on Jan. 15; they can be purchased at the Common Market in Wilson Commons and online at www.urochestertickets.com. The event is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board.
