Renovations Include Innovative Cooking Spaces, Eco-Friendly Furniture

WHAT: Members of the University of Rochester community will celebrate the grand opening of the newly renovated Danforth Dining Hall and a new campus marketplace with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tour of the market, and samples from the kitchen.

TIME, DATE, PLACE: 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, at Danforth Fresh Food Company and Hillside Market, located in the Susan B. Anthony Hall.

ABOUT THE RENOVATIONS: Danforth Fresh Food Company is an all-you-care-to-eat residential restaurant that features fresh, made-to-order meals for students at the University of Rochester. With a daily, rotating menu, the facility offers a variety of culinary options, including vegetarian and vegan.

The restaurant's new design brings the cooking out of the kitchen and into visible, open stations with fresh ingredients front and center so that students can watch—and direct—the cooking of their meals. The facility will have an open-hearth oven, two sauté areas, a Mongolian grill, deli/salad bar, and grill. The new space also includes modern furniture with an eco-friendly twist; plastic chairs in the restaurant were created using 100 percent recycled Coca Cola products, while the facility's aluminum chairs incorporate 80 percent recycled products.

The new campus market—POD, or Provisions on Demand—will be open 24 hours a day throughout the week, offering a variety of ready-to-consume hot and cold meal options, and also features local foods, including produce.

PARKING: Members of the media may park in Library Lot, off Intercampus Drive. Please stop by the Visitors Booth on Wilson Boulevard to receive a token for access into the lot.
