WHO: The University of Rochester's incoming freshmen class, along with their parents, move carloads of belongings into their new homes on the River Campus.

TIME, DATE, PLACE: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Susan B. Anthony Residence Hall (off of Library Road) and the Quad residence hall buildings (Tiernan, Hoeing and Gilbert Halls on Faculty Road, Fraternity Road and Wilson Boulevard) on the River Campus, followed by the College Celebration at 5 p.m.

WHAT: Throughout the day, more than 1,100 students will move into the four residential halls on the River Campus in anticipation of the new academic year.

Move-In Day also marks the beginning of Orientation, a time for students to learn the campus, explore opportunities for involvement in extra-curricular activities, and attend luncheons, barbeques, and receptions where they can meet their peers. The University also has an orientation program designed for parents, which features seminars and workshops about residential life, student activities, and resources available to parents. During the College Celebration at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, President Joel Seligman, along with deans from the College, will welcome the newest Yellowjackets to the River Campus.

On the River Campus, the freshmen class boasts close to 1,150 students, with 39 percent from New York State. About 170 students in the class are from outside of the United States. The in-coming transfer class includes 110 students. The out-of-state, international, and transfer figures are new highs for the University, as are the average test scores. Total enrollment for the 2011-2012 academic year is about 4,650 students, having grown 27 percent in the past decade due to increases in both retention and recruitment.

At the Eastman School of Music, students moved into their new homes at the downtown Eastman Commons Student Living Center on Monday, Aug. 22. Eastman Orientation included a welcome picnic hosted by various administrators and student leaders. At Eastman, approximately 140 incoming freshmen will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 29.
