WHAT: Singer, songwriter, and self-dubbed "high funkstress" Janelle Monáe headlines the Campus Consciousness Tour at the University of Rochester, with opening acts fun. and Timothy Bloom.

TIME, DATE, PLACE: 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, in the Goergen Athletic Center Palestra, located on the University of Rochester's River Campus. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.

WHAT: Called "a different kind of diva" by Vogue Magazine, Janelle Monáe incorporates the musical influences of Stevie, David Bowie, and OutKast to create a unique blend of funk, hip hop, jazz, and soul. In addition to her own albums, Monáe, who has toured with No Doubt, Paramore, and Erykah Badu, can also be heard on the soundtrack for the motion picture For Colored Girls. The single, "Many Moons," from her 2007 debut EP Metropolis, Suite I (The Chase) was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category and in 2011, Monáe's album The ArchAndroid (Suites II And III) was nominated for Best Contemporary R&B album.

TICKETS: Tickets for University of Rochester undergraduate students are $18 (floor) and $15 (bleacher). Tickets for the University faculty, staff, and graduate students are $25 (floor) and $22 (bleacher) and tickets for the general public are $35 (floor) and $32 (bleacher).
