WHAT: The Department of Music at the University of Rochester presents its 3rd annual Day of Brass with dozens of brass musicians, including high school, college, and adult players from the community, who will join the University's Brass Choir, a 40-member brass ensemble, in a celebration of brass instruments and music.
Participants will take part in free workshops and instruction on topics as varied as the Swiss alphorn tradition to orchestral low brass performance. The day features performances by Smugtown Stompers, a traditional Dixieland jazz band, and the University's Stingers Trombone Ensemble. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's Low Brass Section, led by principal trombonist Mark Kellogg, will also present a special workshop and performance.
TIME, DATE, PLACE: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Hoyt Hall Auditorium on the University of Rochester's River Campus. A final concert of students, faculty, and guests will be held at 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required for the final show.
