Teachers ready to delve into a project that would benefit from research and collaboration can apply for this summer's Teacher as Scholar in the 21st Century program offered by the Center for Professional Development and Education Reform at the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development.

Group sessions and study contribute to each project with the assistance of Rusti Berent, adjunct faculty member at the Warner School, and Kathleen McGowan, reference librarian at Rush Rhees Library, at the University of Rochester.

For an intense, two-week period, educators in all types of teaching environments can work on individual projects for the benefit of their school districts, a problem-solving team, a school-based committee, or their own professional growth. The program runs from July 22 to Aug. 2; sessions are held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday in Rush Rhees Library on the University's River Campus. The cost is $300.

Teacher-inspired topics developed in previous sessions include research on learning styles, administrators as instructional leaders, and overachieving first-graders. For applications, call Marty Garland at (585) 275-8270 or e-mail garl@troi.cc.rochester.edu.The Warner School (on the Web at www.rochester.edu/warner/) offers master's degree and doctoral degree programs in teaching, curriculum and change, counseling and human development, and educational leadership.
