DATE, TIME, PLACE: 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at the Little Theatre, 240 East Ave., Rochester, N.Y.

WHAT: To mark the 70th Anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the Chronicle of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising According to Marek Edelman will be screened at the Little Theatre, followed by a panel discussion. The documentary chronicles the Nazi party's 1943 attempt to destroy the Warsaw Ghetto, the largest Jewish ghetto in Nazi-occupied Europe. The operation was met by armed resistance in what would become the largest insurrection by the Jews during World War II. Documentary narrator Marek Edelman, the uprising's only surviving commander, describes the desperate struggle from its beginning on April 19 through May 10, 1943. At only 23 years old, Edelman became a leader of the uprising, during which Germans systematically killed Jews, burned buildings, and rounded up thousands for deportation to concentration camps. His harrowing story is juxtaposed with footage shot by Germans in the Warsaw Ghetto.
