Students representing various faith communities and the Community Service Network at the University of Rochester will be making and delivering 3,000 sandwiches to local food kitchens and community centers this week as part of the Faiths in Action initiative.

Today and tomorrow, students will prepare peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches for about 18 local sites, including Friendship Nursery Center, the House of Mercy, St. Joseph's House, and the Salem House. Food donations for the project, called PB & Jam 2002, are being provided by Genesee Valley Foodlink and Wegmans.

Originally a program sponsored by Jewish Hillel, PB & Jam is being joined by members of the Buddhist, Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Sikh, and Hindu faiths. In addition, groups of student athletes, fraternities, and sororities as well as other clubs will take turns making and delivering sandwiches.

The students will create an assembly line from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, March 25, and tomorrow, March 26, in the Hirst Lounge of Wilson Commons on the River Campus. For more information, call the Interfaith Chapel at (585) 275-4321.
