The Gallery at the Art and Music Library at the University of Rochester is
presenting an exhibition of paintings by William Bond Walker from Thursday, July
10, through Tuesday, August 26.
The exhibition includes abstractions done chiefly in acrylic on paper or board
and show Walker's concern with color and geometry.
"At a time when many artists work in video or installations and environments,
I prefer to paint," said Walker. "In the past I have worked in larger
formats, 48 by 60 inches, but in recent years have preferred smaller paintings,
and keep several sketchbooks going with improvisations in paint."
A retired chief librarian from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Walker lives and
paints in Canaan, N.Y., near the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts. He studied
art in Taos, N.M., and in Los Angeles before earning his degree at the University
of Iowa.
Walker will attend the exhibition's closing reception from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday,
Aug. 24.
Hours for the Gallery at the Art and Music Library, located on the ground floor
of Rush Rhees Library on the River Campus, are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Thursday,
and Friday; and 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. For more information,
