The Gallery at the Art and Music Library at the University of Rochester is presenting an exhibition of paintings by William Bond Walker from Thursday, July 10, through Tuesday, August 26.

The exhibition includes abstractions done chiefly in acrylic on paper or board and show Walker's concern with color and geometry.

"At a time when many artists work in video or installations and environments, I prefer to paint," said Walker. "In the past I have worked in larger formats, 48 by 60 inches, but in recent years have preferred smaller paintings, and keep several sketchbooks going with improvisations in paint."

A retired chief librarian from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Walker lives and paints in Canaan, N.Y., near the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts. He studied art in Taos, N.M., and in Los Angeles before earning his degree at the University of Iowa.

Walker will attend the exhibition's closing reception from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24.
