Aamir R. Mufti, assistant professor of English and comparative literature at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, will discuss interventions and the postcolonial period at 4 p.m. Friday, March 17, in room 201 of Schlegel Hall on the River Campus.
Mufti's research interests focus on the Indian-British encounter, 20th-century Indian fiction, the Victorian novel, literature of exile and displacement, and minority cultures. He writes on many topics, including secularism and postcolonial perspectives in India.
His lecture, titled "Toward a Lyric History of India," is free and open to the public. The talk will focus on the great South Asian poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, and will link his work to the Muslim minority question in India.
His lecture is sponsored by the College Dean's Office along with the Departments of Anthropology, Art and Art History, English, History, Modern Languages and Cultures, and the Program in Visual and Cultural Studies.
