DATE, TIME, PLACE: Saturday, Sept. 14, 1 - 4 p.m. in Munnerlyn Atrium, located in the Robert B. Goergen Hall for Biomedical Engineering and Optics on the University of Rochester River Campus.

WHAT: The University of Rochester will host the Finger Lakes FIRST Lego League Tournament Kick-Off event to reveal the tournament's challenge and theme. This year's "Nature's Fury" challenge will explore innovative solutions to protect people during natural disasters. On Nov. 23, nearly 1,500 kids ages 6-14 will compete at eight qualifying tournaments throughout the Finger Lakes region. Thirty-six teams will advance to the championship tournament, which will be held at the University of Rochester on Dec. 8.

The competition, founded by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is coordinated and hosted with the help of local volunteers, high schools, and middle schools in the Finger Lakes region.
