Rochester premiere of the Spike Lee film Jim Brown: All American (2002)

TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Dryden Theater of the George Eastman House, 900 East Ave. Co-sponsored by the Frederick Douglass Institute of African and African-American Studies and the Film and Media Studies Program at the University of Rochester.

Director Spike Lee's latest documentary Jim Brown: All American charts the ups and downs in the life of the complicated and charismatic football great Jim Brown and will be shown at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Dryden Theater of the George Eastman House, 900 East Ave.

Co-sponsored by the Frederick Douglass Institute of African and African-American Studies and the Film and Media Studies Program at the University of Rochester, the showing is free to University faculty, students, and staff with identification. It is the first of the Institute's Society and Film Series, which will offer innovative and dynamic perspectives on African- and African-American life and culture.

The film focuses on Brown's early years as a high school and college football star, and his career as an NFL running back. Then it develops his later life as a movie star, an icon of the African-American community for charity work, and a defendant in a sexual assault trial.
