Professor Lisa Lopez Levers, director of the counselor education program at the University of Rochester's Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development, has been recognized for her commitment to education by the New Orleans Police Department.

As a faculty member of the University of New Orleans, Lever last year co-taught a course titled "Children and Violence" to more than 70 members of the New Orleans Police Department. The course educated participants about the harmful effects that violent surroundings can have on children.

Levers, along with other program participants, was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the police department on Jan. 23 in New Orleans.
