Meningitis and Influenza Immunization Outreach Program

TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Friel Lounge of the Susan B. Anthony Residence Halls on the University of Rochester's River Campus. COST: Fees for the immunizations are $85 for bacterial meningococcal meningitis vaccine; $20 for influenza vaccine. The outreach program is open to University of Rochester students, faculty, staff, and others associated with the University. No appointments are necessary. UHS is offering this meningitis immunization outreach program because of an increase in the number of cases of meningitis on college campuses. The bacterial infection, which causes inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, is the second most common cause of bacterial meningitis in the United States, responsible for 3,000 to 4,000 cases each year.
