Prince Athletic Complex. Planned to house 151 first-year students, its design integrates academics, athletics, and student life into the residential experience. It is scheduled to open in fall 2017 as a modern, air conditioned facility, which will also target LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) designation for sustainable construction, operations and landscaping.<\/p>\n<p>The top four floors of residential space will feature single and double bedrooms. Lounges on these levels will have ceiling-high windows to maximize sunlight. The main level will be dedicated to academic and student life services with meeting rooms and offices. This space will include meeting rooms for study groups and workshops, and offices that will be available for health professions, as well as career, academic, fellowship and STEM advising.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe academic and student services located right in the residence hall will help us support students in a way that is more integrated with their lifestyle, including offering evening and weekend hours for these offices,\u201d said Richard Feldman, dean of the College.\u00a0 \u201cThe addition of this residence hall will also help to free up space for upperclassmen in the housing system, enabling us to meet our goal of housing over 80 percent of our students on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Combining housing and athletics<\/h3>\n<p>The lower field-level of the building will feature new varsity athletics locker rooms for men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams, as well as sports medicine and team equipment rooms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new facility will more effectively support existing varsity program needs with adequate locker rooms, training rooms and an equipment-issue area commensurate with current standards for programs of our size and scope,\u201d said George VanderZwaag, executive director of athletics and recreation.\u00a0 \u201cBuilt in 1930, the ground floor space within Fauver Stadium currently used doesn\u2019t meet these needs for the number of varsity teams currently sponsored by the University, and was not designed to provide any space for women\u2019s programs given that women did not reside on the River Campus at that time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new residence hall will be a housing option for first-year students, adding to the first-year housing and programming in the adjacent Susan B. Anthony Hall<strong>.<\/strong> With its proximity to the Prince Athletic Complex, it can also efficiently be used for summer camps, programs, and conferences.<\/p>\n<p>The concept for the project is by Ayers Saint Gross, Architects and Planners, the same firm that designed O\u2019Brien Hall, which opened in 2012 on River Campus. The design build team is The Pike Company in association with SWBR Architect.<\/p>\n<p>The Prince Athletic Complex\u2014made possible by the generosity of University Trustee Brian F. Prince, \u201986, \u201989S (MBA)\u2014includes Fauver Stadium, North Field, Lyman Outdoor Tennis Center, and Towers Field.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Construction will begin
