The microbiology major from Fairport, a suburb of Rochester, has been a data and programs office assistant in the alumni relations department for two years. He was among 24 nominees who were honored in a ceremony Wednesday afternoon in Schlegel Hall. Yamout was chosen by a committee of nomination readers who represented all University campuses.<\/p>\n
“It’s a very pleasant surprise,” Yamout says. “It means a lot to me.”<\/p>\n
Yamout will begin working in the Rochester area as a medical scribe on June 1. He also will be applying to medical schools.<\/p>\n
Yamout was tasked with overseeing student volunteers for Meliora Weekend in 2015 and 2016. He moved recruitment to a digital process, a streamlined effort that resulted in every volunteer slot being filled both years.<\/p>\n
“He’s a great example of all who take the time to work here while attending the University,” said Donna Colline, assistant director of alumni relations, who nominated Yamout. “We don’t know how they fit it in with their schedules.”<\/p>\n
According to Molly Jacob, executive director of Enrollment Management Services, more than 4,200 students work in 200 departments and University affiliates.<\/p>\n
University president and CEO Joel Seligman addressed the nominees at the event, which is sponsored by the Student Employment Office.<\/p>\n
“We are a University that likes to describe itself as a Rochester family, and you’re a part of it,” Seligman said. “We’re determined to have student workers who support our mission. To me, you are all winners.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
