CNN political analyst Ana Navarro will be the keynote speaker for the University\u2019s annual Diversity Conference<\/a> this Friday, April 13.<\/p>\n

The keynote address begins at 8:30 a.m. at Strong Auditorium and is free and open to the public. You can also watch the keynote address live online<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Parking is available in the Larry and Cindy Bloch Alumni and Advancement Center, 300 East River Road, with continuous shuttles running to Strong and back.<\/p>\n

Navarro is a Republican strategist who has appeared on Meet the Press, Anderson Cooper 360, The View, <\/em>and Bill Maher\u2019s Real Time. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt goes beyond empowerment when a fellow Latina boldly uses her voice in a way that is strong, opinionated, and speaking out for those that do not have such a platform,\u201d said Janixa Meijas, senior admissions counselor for diversity and outreach initiatives. \u201cI am thoroughly excited to hear the insight and perspective that Ana has to share.\u201d<\/p>\n

Navarro was born in Nicaragua and, as a result of the Sandinista revolution, immigrated with her family to the United States in 1980. Her talk Friday will focus on the complexities of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and immigrants in the United States. She\u2019ll also explore the topic of diversity from various perspectives.<\/p>\n

The objective of the conference is for the University community and the Greater Rochester community to engage with diversity-related topics. This year\u2019s theme is \u201cOvercoming the Invisible.\u201d The conference aims to explore hidden identities, evolve beyond the social constructions that drive perception, and find pathways to create meaningful change.<\/p>\n
