(University of Rochester photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The NACUFS Sustainability Awards annually recognize and honor member institutions that have demonstrated\u00a0outstanding leadership in the promotion and implementation of environmental sustainability,\u00a0specifically as it relates to campus dining operations.\u00a0The awards\u00a0support the globally accepted triple bottom line philosophy, also known as \u201cpeople, planet, profit.\u201d This philosophy is a method of evaluating\u00a0operational performance by measuring financial success as well as environmental sustainability\u00a0and social responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>With the creation of these awards, NACUFS leads the foodservice industry in recognizing\u00a0the pivotal role that dining services play in the overall sustainability goals of a campus. Dining services staff in particular face daunting challenges in satisfying customers and generating revenue while simultaneously minimizing environmental impact.<\/p>\n<p>The annual awards contest recognizes excellence in sustainable campus dining with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nacufs.org\/sustainability-awards\">gold, silver, and bronze award<\/a> in each of five operational categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Procurement Practices<\/li>\n<li>Energy and Water Conservation<\/li>\n<li>Waste Management<\/li>\n<li>Materials and Resources<\/li>\n<li>Outreach and Education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The University\u2019s award-winning entry was prepared by Patricia Hanna \u201919, an undergraduate student in the College and the manager for Dining Services\u2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.rochester.edu\/thegreendandelion\/team-green\/\">Team Green<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The student-led Team Green program has earned a Gold Award
