{"id":356742,"date":"2019-01-03T15:23:58","date_gmt":"2019-01-03T20:23:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/?p=356742"},"modified":"2019-01-07T09:46:34","modified_gmt":"2019-01-07T14:46:34","slug":"love-in-the-time-of-tinder-grindr-dating-apps-356742","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/love-in-the-time-of-tinder-grindr-dating-apps-356742\/","title":{"rendered":"Love in the time of Tinder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A lot has changed in the world of dating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s not as much stigma than maybe 10 years ago,\u201d said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sas.rochester.edu\/psy\/people\/faculty\/rogge_ronald\/\">Ronald Rogge<\/a>, associate professor of psychology at the University of Rochester, referring to the widespread use of geosocial networking apps like Tinder in the pursuit of finding love, romance, and\/or hookups. Rogge made the comment recently on WXXI\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wxxinews.org\/post\/connections-how-mobile-and-online-dating-apps-have-changed-dating-culture\"><em>Connections with Evan Dawson.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rogge noted that more than a third of his sample in a recent study said they had used dating apps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s offering people a completely new way to connect with others, or at least surf through their options.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rogge, a couples researcher who studies the dynamics within romantic relationships and families, appeared on the show along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sas.rochester.edu\/psy\/people\/faculty\/reis_harry\/\">Harry Reis<\/a>, professor of psychology and Dean\u2019s Professor in Arts, Sciences &amp; Engineering at Rochester, and two local users of dating apps, to discuss how apps and online dating sites had revolutionized the dating culture.<\/p>\n<p>Reis studies social interaction and close relationships and among many scientific papers has also co-authored <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/tips-for-successful-dating-in-a-digital-world\/\">\u201cTips for Successful Dating in a Digital World<\/a>,\u201d published in <em>Scientific American<\/em>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wxxinews.org\/post\/connections-how-mobile-and-online-dating-apps-have-changed-dating-culture\">Listen here\u00a0to the entire conversation on WXXI.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than one-third of the sample in a recent survey by associate professor of psychology Ronald Rogge used dating apps.
