Tuition for University of Rochester undergraduates in the College in academic year 2019-20 will be $55,040, with financial aid rising 6.5% percent over the current year to $146 million.<\/p>\n

The tuition rate increase is 3.9 percent. Room and board will increase 3.75 percent to $16,470. Tuition for Eastman School of Music undergraduates will increase 3.8 percent to $55,370.<\/p>\n

After considering available revenue sources, as well as operating efficiencies, the University Board of Trustees approved the 2019-20 undergraduate tuition rates at a February meeting.<\/p>\n

\"Tuition\u201cThe University is working hard to keep our costs as low as possible for students, while still providing the services that we know are needed for a top-tier university education,\u201d said Donald Hall, the Robert L. and Mary L. Sproull Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Sciences & Engineering. \u201cBy keeping our tuition increase modest and also increasing our financial aid commitment, we hope to ensure access to a Rochester education for students who have worked so hard to get here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Undergraduate tuition background <\/strong><\/p>\n

Annually, the University determines the undergraduate tuition rate based on the projected financial needs of Arts, Sciences and Engineering in the upcoming year, as well as the expected number of enrolled students. This formula does not change. Tuition increases are also a balance between the University\u2019s ability to provide the best instructional experiences for students and keeping the cost affordable.<\/p>\n

For 2019-20, tuition will cover about 66 percent of AS&E expenses, which are projected to rise in cost by 5 percent in the coming year. Tuition dollars go to the programs, services and facilities that benefit all AS&E undergraduates, regardless of whether students live on or off campus.<\/p>\n

Financial aid increase<\/strong><\/p>\n

With an increase in the cost of attendance comes an increase in the institutional financial aid that supports AS&E undergraduates. This year, financial aid funding is rising by 6.5 percent to $146 million\u2014from $137 million in 2018-19. This $146 million is in the form of institutional grants and scholarships.<\/p>\n

In 2018-19, more than $203 million in total aid\u2014the combination of federal\/state\/outside grants\/scholarships\/loans and University grants and scholarships\u2014was awarded.<\/p>\n

Tuition at the University\u2019s professional schools<\/strong><\/p>\n
