Rochester alumna Robin Lynn \u201970 witnessed the birth of Beatlemania\u2014and had her reaction broadcast live on television. Fifty years later, she remains linked with the famous British foursome.<\/h3>\n

In early February 1964, 15-year-old Robin Lynn was at home when her aunt called her with the news: \u201cI got them!\u201d<\/p>\n

Caught off-guard, Lynn replied, \u201cGot what?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tickets you asked for!\u201d<\/p>\n

Lynn\u2019s aunt worked as an accountant for a movie producer, and she had secured a pair of tickets to the upcoming taping of The Ed Sullivan Show<\/i> featuring the Beatles.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t say I\u2019m a big music fan,\u201d explains Lynn, \u201cbut living in New York City, I knew that the Beatles were coming to town\u2014and that it was a big deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s showtime<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The show started at 8 p.m. on February 9. Lynn and her friend took a cab to Manhattan\u2019s Theater District and waited in line outside The Ed Sullivan Theater.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur tickets were for balcony seats, so we went upstairs and sat down. Before the show started, a cameraman turned around and said to us that we might be on television tonight.\u201d With all the energy and commotion, the rest of the night passed by in a blur, recalls Lynn.<\/p>\n

That episode of the show is remembered today as the start of Beatlemania in America. An estimated 73 million viewers watched that night. Little did Lynn know that she would be immortalized on screen along with Paul, John, George, and Ringo.<\/p>\n

As Paul McCartney sings \u201cAll My Loving,\u201d the camera cuts to Lynn and stays on her for several seconds as she sighs and pants in adoration of the lads from Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Many of Lynn\u2019s friends and family saw her on television that night. \u201cI was quite the celebrity at school the next day,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Then and now<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Since then, the Beatles\u2019 iconic performance has been rebroadcast countless times\u2014and with it, Lynn the fangirl. \u201cWhenever there\u2019s a retrospective or review about the 1960s, the Beatles, television history, or Ed Sullivan, that clip reappears.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not that she\u2019s complaining, even fifty years later. \u201cThe best part is the reaction I get from people,\u201d Lynn says. \u201cThey just perk up when they find out that I\u2019m that girl. Needless to say, it\u2019s been a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
