University of Rochester Humanities Project Explores Gender Equality in the Media<\/i><\/p>\n
WHAT:<\/b>\u00a0The publication of Sheryl Sandberg’s book\u00a0Lean In<\/i>\u00a0created many questions about the state of feminism today, especially for women who have yet to break through the glass ceiling. A three-day film and lecture series at the University of Rochester looks at the work of female journalists, authors, and filmmakers working to bring attention to stories about motherhood in America, sex and sexuality, reproductive rights, and racial inequality.<\/p>\n
The project takes place March 18 to 20 on the University’s River Campus and is sponsored by the University of Rochester Humanities Project, Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender and Women’s Studies, Department of Anthropology, Department of Art and Art History, Program in Visual and Cultural Studies, and Film and Media Studies Program.<\/p>\n

\nThe Last Clinic<\/i>, by Maisie Crow, documents the last abortion clinic in Mississippi. After the screening, a panel discussion will take place featuring Crow, author and collaborator Alissa Quart, Rachael Phelps, medical director, Planned Parenthood of Western and Central N.Y.; and Jennifer Creech, assistant professor of German at the University of Rochester.
