WHAT:<\/b>\u00a0The canonization of John Paul II on April 27, 2014, will be celebrated at the University of Rochester through a blend of music, readings of John Paul’s poetry, and excerpts from the book,\u00a0John Paul II the Story of My Life: Collected Memories<\/i>.<\/p>\n
From his early years as a quarry worker, seminary student, and priest, John Paul II, then known as Karol Wojty\u0142a, was an avid writer of poetry, plays, and essays, his work dating back to 1938. His last poem,\u00a0Tryptyk Rzymski (Roman Triptych)<\/i>\u00a0was written in 2002.<\/p>\n
As a way to celebrate John Paul II, poetry and memories will be read in English by Rev. Brian C. Cool and in Polish by Karolina Stycze\u0144.<\/p>\n
In addition to and interspersed throughout the readings, musicians from the Eastman School of Music will perform selections from Bach, Chopin, Wieniawski, Beethoven, Dungan, and Gounod. The musicians include Johnandrew Slominski (piano), Emily Helenbrook (soprano), and Petros Karapetyan, (violin).<\/p>\n
ADMISSION:<\/b>\u00a0The concert is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
