Col Raimond<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Raimond, LGBTQ Coordinator at the Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center, has been named the first staff ombudsperson for Arts, Sciences & Engineering (AS&E).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this newly established role, Raimond will serve as a neutral resource, providing confidential and informal assistance to members of the campus community and offering AS&E staff voluntary, informal, neutral, and confidential assistance in resolving University-related issues or concerns. By definition, an ombudsperson is an impartial third party and cannot provide legal advice or representation at any grievance, disciplinary, or judicial procedure.<\/p>\n

\u201cCol is a seasoned professional who will serve to assist staff in negotiating the stresses of the workplace and achieving our goal of an equitable, supportive, and inclusive community,\u201d says Donald Hall, the Robert L. and Mary L. Sproull Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Sciences & Engineering. \u201cWe are committed to making the University of Rochester a great place to work, where all of our staff can thrive. Col will be a key partner in helping us realize that goal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raimond (pronouns he\/she\/they) earned their juris doctorate from the University at Buffalo Law School and their bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from the College at Brockport. A practicing trademark attorney before joining the University in 2018, Raimond is excited to have the opportunity to be such an important resource for their colleagues in AS&E. \u201cI am honored to serve as AS&E staff ombudsperson, and I look forward to working to make the staff experience in AS&E ever better.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

John Barker, senior associate dean of the faculty for AS&E, whose role includes serving as faculty ombudsperson, says that role has helped him realize the importance of an equivalent position for staff. \u201cI am excited that we were able to make this happen and add additional support for staff, and am happy to team with Col,\u201d Barker said. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
