A full conference schedule can be found at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/college\/humanities\/\">https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/college\/humanities\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>WHAT:<\/b>\u00a0The University of Rochester&#8217;s Humanities Project presents a symposium in which 16 distinguished scholars will discuss what it means to be black in the 21st century. The conference focuses on &#8220;post-blackness&#8221; a term originally used to describe artists in the 1990s who were adamant about not being labeled &#8220;black&#8221; artists and used their craft to redefine the way their work was viewed by society.<\/p>\n<p>Essays delivered and discussed at the symposium will be published by Columbia University Press in 2015.<\/p>\n<p><b>ABOUT THE HUMANITIES PROJECT:<\/b>\u00a0Created in 2006 by University of Rochester President Joel Seligman, the Humanities Project supports collaborations by Rochester faculty in philosophy, the arts, languages, and other fields. Individual projects involve faculty members from at least two different departments, and often with institutions in the greater Rochester community, and scholars from around the world.<\/p>\n<p><b>FOR
