Adam Fenster)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><strong>Matt BaileyShea\u2019s book wins Wallace Berry Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>At a recent conference in New Orleans,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sas.rochester.edu\/mur\/people\/baileyshea_matthew\/index.html\">Matt BaileyShea<\/a>, chair of the\u00a0Arthur Satz Department of Music, was awarded the 2022\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/societymusictheory.org\/announcement\/2022-smt-publication-awards-2022-11\">Wallace Berry Award<\/a> from the Society for Music Theory for his book <em>Lines and Lyrics: An Introduction to Poetry and Song<\/em>\u00a0(Yale University Press, 2021). The award is given to a distinguished book by an author of any age or career stage. BaileyShea has been teaching music theory in the music department and at the Eastman School since 2003.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Find out when BaileyShea began\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/eastman-music-theorist-lines-and-lyrics-book-on-poetry-song-519702\/\">connecting poetry and song lyrics<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr style=\"width: 75%;\" \/>\n<h3><strong>Susan Blaakman named a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/son.rochester.edu\/directory\/sbla\/\">Susan Blaakman<\/a>, a professor of clinical nursing and the director of the\u00a0Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rochester.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a189cd9ed33688f25cd099a91&amp;id=65f52b2a16&amp;e=4d14fc96c8\">was inducted<\/a>\u00a0into the American Academy of Nursing&#8217;s 2022 Class of Fellows. She joins several other current faculty members who have become fellows of the AAN (FAANs) throughout the years, including\u00a0Mary Carey, Margaret Carno, K.C. Adam Fenster)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><strong>Krystel Huxlin elected to Optica\u2019s 2023 fellow class<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/people\/23346062-krystel-huxlin\">Krystel Huxlin<\/a>, the James V. Aquavella, MD Professor and director of research for the department of ophthalmology, was selected as a fellow for her innovative approaches to visual restoration, encompassing optics, ocular biology, laser tissue-interaction, and visual behavior.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.optica.org\/en-us\/home\/\">Optica<\/a>\u00a0(formerly OSA) is dedicated to promoting the generation, application, and dissemination of knowledge in optics and photonics worldwide. Huxlin is among 109 members from 24 countries elected to the society\u2019s 2023 fellow class.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optica.org\/en-us\/about\/newsroom\/news_releases\/2022\/november\/optica_announces_2023_fellows_class\/\">Optica\u2019s newest fellows<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr style=\"width: 75%;\" \/>\n<h3><strong>Jennifer Kyker wins prize for article about the ground-bow in Africa<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sas.rochester.edu\/mur\/people\/kyker_jennifer\/index.html\">Jennifer Kyker<\/a>, an associate professor of ethnomusicology at the Eastman School of Music and an associate professor in the Arthur Satz Department of Music, has won the Society for Ethnomusicology\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ethnomusicology.org\/page\/Prizes_Wachsmann\">Klaus P. Wachsmann Prize for Advanced and Critical Essays in Organology<\/a>. Kyker&#8217;s article,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scholarlypublishingcollective.org\/uip\/etm\/article-abstract\/65\/2\/324\/283920\/Music-under-the-Ground-Ethnomusicological-Research\">&#8220;Music Under the Ground: Ethnomusicological Research on the Ground-Bow in Africa,&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0appeared in the journal\u00a0<em>Ethnomusicology<\/em>. She\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amis.org\/post\/the-ground-bow-in-zimbabwe-and-beyond\">situates her work<\/a>\u00a0with Zimbabwean bow players, including Sekuru Compound Muradzikwa, into dialogue with over a century of literature on the ground-bow throughout sub-Saharan Africa. The article also earned an honorable mention for the society\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ethnomusicology.org\/page\/Prizes_Nettl\">Bruno Nettl Prize<\/a>, which recognizes an outstanding publication contributing to or dealing with the history of the field of ethnomusicology.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Discover\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/mbira-telling-sekurus-stories-music-digital-scholarship-338282\/\">how Kyker embarked on Zimbabwean mbira digital scholarship<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr style=\"width: 75%;\" \/>\n<h3><strong>Ann Leonhardt-Caprio\u2019s article wins American Heart Association Council award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/people\/22509925-ann-m-leonhardt-caprio\">Ann Leonhardt-Caprio<\/a>\u2014the program coordinator of Strong Memorial Hospital\u2019s Comprehensive Stroke Center, an assistant professor in the School of Nursing, and an alumna of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program\u2014received the American Heart Association (AHA) <a href=\"https:\/\/professional.heart.org\/en\/partners\/scientific-councils\/cvsn\">Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing<\/a>\u2019s 2022 Stroke Article of the Year Award. Morgan, Jr. Professor in Medicine and the associate director of the internal medicine residency program, earned the Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acgme.org\/\">Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education<\/a> (ACGME). Adam Fenster)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><strong>Kathy Rideout\u2019s article on doctor of nursing practice degrees wins journal award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>School of Nursing Dean Emerita\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/people\/20411213-kathy-h-rideout\">Kathy Rideout\u00a0<\/a>is a recipient of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nursingoutlook.org\/\"><em>Nursing Outlook<\/em><\/a>\u2019s 2022 Excellence in Education Award. Rideout collaborated with seven other nurse leaders to explore the state of nursing doctoral education and provide recommendations for standardizing the requirements for DNP programs. The journal\u2019s award\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rochester.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a189cd9ed33688f25cd099a91&amp;id=ced04ab22c&amp;e=4d14fc96c8\">recognizes their article<\/a>, \u201cDoctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree in the United States: Reflecting, readjusting, and getting back on track,\u201d which was published in 2020.<\/p>\n<hr style=\"width: 75%;\" \/>\n<h3><strong>Bruce Smoller receives lifetime achievement award<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capannualmeeting.org\/\">College of American Pathologists<\/a> recognized <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/people\/28961383-bruce-smoller\">Bruce Smoller<\/a>, a professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, for his long and distinguished career at the CAP22 national conference. (URMC Intranet login required)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr style=\"width: 75%;\" \/>\n<h3 id=\"ram\"><strong>Rochester Academy of Medicine recognizes several Rochester faculty members<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.raom.org\/\">Rochester Academy of Medicine<\/a>\u00a0is a community-based organization of health care experts seeking to advance learning, encourage service, and initiate collaboration. Twelve individuals from the University, including several faculty, were recently recognized by the academy.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Lifetime Achievement Awards<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/people\/21561238-nancy-m-bennett\">Nancy \u201cNana\u201d Bennett<\/a> received the Dr. Albert David Kaiser Medal, given to a physician who exemplifies outstanding professional and personal qualities and lifetime service in medicine, public health and community welfare. Bennett is the founder and director of the Center for Community Health &amp; Prevention, and codirector of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/people\/20826864-susan-h-mcdaniel\">Susan McDaniel<\/a>, the Dr. Laurie Sands Distinguished Professor of Families and Health, received the Dr. Madeline H.
