Blackstock Mentorship Award<\/a>\u00a0from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/acousticalsociety.org\/\">Acoustical Society of America<\/a>.\u00a0Presented by the ASA Student Association, the Blackstock Award recognizes exceptional mentorship in the field of acoustics and is based on nominations submitted by ASA members.<\/p>\n<p>The award was established in 2004 by the ASA Student Council to honor individuals who demonstrate outstanding dedication and excellence in mentoring students across a wide range of areas. It was named in honor of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/ece\/news-events\/news\/archives\/2021\/2021-05-18_blackstock.html\">David T. Blackstock<\/a>, a pioneer in nonlinear acoustics and a former professor at both the University of Rochester and the University of Texas at Austin.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/labs\/carney\">Visit the Carney Lab website to learn more about Carney\u2019s research<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr style=\"width: 50%;\" \/>\n<h3 id=\"ercoli\"><strong>Carlo Ercoli to lead Academy of Prosthodontics<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/people\/112358884-carlo-ercoli\">Carlo Ercoli<\/a>, chair of prosthodontics at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/dentistry\">Eastman Institute for Oral Health<\/a>, has been named the 102nd president of the Academy of Prosthodontics. Ercoli was installed at the academy\u2019s recent annual meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>Ercoli is a past president of the American Prosthodontic Society and was awarded Educator of the Year by the American College of Prosthodontists in 2020. He has served as chair of the EIOH Prosthodontics Department since 2006. (Photo provided)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/people\/112361774-wyatte-c-hall\">Wyatte Hall<\/a>, an expert in language deprivation as a social public health epidemic in deaf communities and an assistant professor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/public-health-sciences\">public health sciences<\/a>, was named to <em>Forbes<\/em>\u2019 inaugural Accessibility 100 list, which recognizes the \u201c100 top innovators and impact-makers in the field of accessibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen a child is born deaf or hard of hearing, their access to and understanding of language can be severely limited during these crucial [early] years, causing lifelong consequences,\u201d Hall\u2019s award profile states, appearing under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/alanschwarz\/2025\/06\/17\/accessible-education-from-preschool-to-med-school\/\">Education category<\/a>. \u201c(Any learning of American Sign Language often comes much later.) Hall\u2019s Visual Language Access and Acquisition Lab is a leader in researching those adverse effects and possible solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beyond research, Hall is an advocate and mentor. At Rochester, he established a Deaf Academic Group as an informal peer mentoring group to support deaf trainees at all levels, and he worked towards improving Deaf Professional Interpreting Services at the University. Hall also co-created the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/cancer-institute\/education\/pipeline-programs-for-high-school-students\/wilmot-future-deaf-scientists-program\">Wilmot Future Deaf Scientists<\/a> to introduce deaf high school students to the world of science and medicine, with a focus on cancer research.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/news\/story\/wyatte-hall-named-to-forbes-accessibility-100\">Find out more about Hall and his contributions<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr style=\"width: 50%;\" \/>\n<h3 id=\"heuer\"><strong>Christopher Heuer selected as a Getty Scholar<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sas.rochester.edu\/aah\/people\/faculty\/heuer_christopher\/index.html\">Christopher Heuer<\/a>, a professor of art history in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sas.rochester.edu\/aah\/index.html\">Department of Art and Art History<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sas.rochester.edu\/vcs\/\">Graduate Program in Visual and Cultural Studies<\/a>, is among the scholars and arts professionals worldwide who have received a 2025\u201326 fellowship from the GRI Getty Scholars Program. This year\u2019s scholars will gather in the coming academic year to engage with research exploring the theme of \u201cRepair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Heuer engages the theories, ecologies, materialisms, and politics of Europe from AD 1400 to the present, with a particular interest in early modern myths of North, poverty, and waste. Adam Fenster)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Professor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.rochester.edu\/people\/faculty\/hoque_m.ehsan\/index.html\">Ehsan Hoque<\/a> from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.rochester.edu\/index.html\">Department of Computer Science<\/a> received the <a href=\"https:\/\/lettenprize.com\/2025\/06\/17\/the-2025-letten-prize-finalists\/\">Letten Prize Runners-Up Award<\/a> \u201cfor his unique and applied research into the matters of bringing equity to the health condition of people across the globe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lettenprize.com\/\">Letten Prize<\/a> is a biannual award highlighting young researchers who contribute to solving major global challenges in health, development, and environment. Of 158 applications, Hoque is one of five young researchers shortlisted for the prize.<\/p>\n<p>Hoque was nominated for his research on integrating artificial intelligence in health diagnosis in ways that aim to improve the lives of people who do not have access to medical practitioners, thus securing equity and equal access across the world. The Letten Prize Committee noted Hoque\u2019s work building Parkinson\u2019s Analysis with Remote Kinetic Tasks (PARK), a web-based screening tool that can automatically analyze video recordings of participants doing simple motor tasks.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/ai-test-for-parkinsons-disease-severity-566772\/\">Read about an online AI-based test for Parkinson\u2019s disease severity developed by Hoque\u2019s lab<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr style=\"width: 50%;\" \/>\n<h3 id=\"ross\"><strong>AAP appoints Lainie Ross to lead bioethics committee<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has appointed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/people\/112363409-lainie-friedman-ross\">Lainie Friedman Ross<\/a> to a four-year term as chair of the AAP Committee on Bioethics, effective July 1, 2025. In the role, Ross will guide the academy in crafting and reviewing policy statements, technical reports, and clinical guidelines on complex ethical issues in pediatric care.<\/p>\n<p>An internationally renowned bioethicist, Ross is the inaugural chair of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/medical-humanities\">Department of Health Humanities and Bioethics<\/a> and director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/paul-m-schyve-md-center-for-bioethics\">Paul M. Schyve, MD Center for Bioethics<\/a>. Ross also holds faculty appointments in the Departments of Neurology, Pediatrics, Philosophy, and Surgery.<\/p>\n<p>She has published five books, over 225 peer-reviewed articles, and is currently authoring a sixth book on ethical issues in siblings\u2019 roles in healthcare.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a
