Federal regulations and OHSP Policy 402: RSRB Meetings<\/a> give Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) the authority to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Approve submissions as submitted;<\/li>\n
  2. Approve submissions with modifications required<\/a> (also referred to as \u2018approved with stipulations\u2019 and \u2018modifications to secure approval\u2019);<\/li>\n
  3. Defer submissions<\/a> (also referred to as \u2018table\u2019); or<\/li>\n
  4. Disapprove submissions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Often, when the boards require modifications to the research, study teams fail to understand the implications for a review item that is approved with modifications required versus one that is deferred.<\/p>\n
