{"id":3856,"date":"2024-01-05T12:04:42","date_gmt":"2024-01-05T17:04:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/ohsp\/?page_id=3856"},"modified":"2025-02-28T10:40:19","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T15:40:19","slug":"subject-screening","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/ohsp\/resources\/subject-screening\/","title":{"rendered":"Subject Screening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Among other things, the criteria for Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval of research (<a class=\"u-link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/on\/2018-07-19\/title-45\/subtitle-A\/subchapter-A\/part-46#46.111\">45 CFR 46.111<\/a>, <a class=\"u-link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/current\/title-21\/chapter-I\/subchapter-A\/part-56#56.111\">21 CFR 56.111<\/a>) require that the research:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>minimize risks to subjects, and<\/li>\n<li>select subjects equitably.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A common mechanism for meeting these requirements, in part, is to clearly define your study population in the study protocol via eligibility requirements (i.e., inclusion and exclusion criteria).
