RenÉe Fleming Named Distinguished Visiting Artist at Eastman

New Eastman School Institute Focuses on Music for Film, Contemporary Media

Students will have a range of opportunities to write, produce, and perform music for film and contemporary media as part of a new initiative at the Eastman School. That’s thanks to a $2 million commitment from Emmy-winning composer Jeff Beal ’85E and vocalist Joan Beal ’84E to launch the Beal Institute for Film Music and Contemporary Media. Most recently known for his critically acclaimed scores, Jeff Beal won his fourth Emmy this month for his work on the Netflix series House of Cards

Institute for Performing Arts Director Named

John Covach, founding director of the University’s Institute for Popular Music, professor and former chair of the Department of Music, and professor of music theory at the Eastman School, has been named the inaugural director of the newly created Institute for Performing Arts. Read more...

AlertUR Test Set for Tonight

The fall semester test of AlertUR, the University’s emergency notification system, will occur tonight at 6 p.m. The purpose of the twice-a-year test is to activate the AlertUR system and check that it is working effectively. In the event of an emergency, alerts are sent by voice, text, or email message. All students have been encouraged to review and update their contact information at prior to the test.

Reminder: Financial Aid Communications

The Financial Aid Office communicates directly with your student via email. If your student has any outstanding documents from this year’s financial aid application, he or she needs to submit them to the office as soon as possible. Students who have outstanding application materials will receive an email from Financial Aid this month. If the requirements are not completed by October 9, their University bill may be affected.

UHS to Hold Flu Vaccine Clinic on October 15

University Health Service will hold a campus-wide flu vaccine clinic for students, staff, and faculty on Thursday, October 15, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Goergen Athletic Center. All River Campus–based students and employees are encouraged to come to the clinic to receive a flu shot. The cost for the flu shot ($25) will be billed to the student’s insurance plan. If not covered by insurance, the cost can be billed to the student’s tuition billing statement. Students with high-risk health conditions and those who will not be on campus on October 15 can receive flu shots at UHS by appointment. A separate flu vaccine clinic will be scheduled at the Eastman School.

  • Inspiring, engaging presentations by students, faculty and alumni in the third annual MEL Talks
Additional highlights include faculty mini lectures for parents; “Athletics of the Mind,” a showcase of student skills and talents; and the River Campus Deans’ Reception and Welcome Dinner.
