Diversity Report Issued; Race and Diversity Commission Update

In his 10th annual diversity report, President and CEO Joel Seligman says the commitment to making the University welcoming and inclusive is a never-ending one. The Presidential Commission on Race and Diversity continues its work to review the climate for race and diversity throughout the University. Because of the large amount of data that needs analysis—from town halls, focus groups, and surveys—the commission’s final report is now expected in September. On May 3, the College released a Report on College Initiatives on Race and Diversity, which provides an update on steps taken in the College during the past several months.

Health Insurance Reminders for Graduating and Returning Students

For graduating students: Graduates on a parent’s insurance plan can usually remain on the plan until age 26. Graduates who are enrolled in the University-sponsored Aetna Student Health insurance plan automatically continue that coverage through July 31, 2016; coverage is worldwide. Ending student coverage as a result of graduation is a “qualifying life event” that allows enrollment in another plan effective August 1. UHS officials say it’s generally best to find a plan that has a network of providers where you will be living or one that offers nationwide coverage. Go to for further information.
For returning students: The annual fall open enrollment period to either enroll or waive the University-sponsored insurance is expected to open in mid-June for coverage beginning August 1, 2016. All full-time students, with the exception of students studying abroad in the fall, need to complete the online insurance process annually. Check the UHS website after June 6 for notices about completing the online process. Email reminders for returning students will be sent to University email addresses starting in late June. Undergraduates who complete the process by June 30 will have correct accounts for the July billing cycle.

The Day of Giving supports student scholarships, patient care, research, community programs, and more.
