University Introduces New Banded Parking Program

The parking permit renewal season is fast approaching, and all current University parking permits will expire June 30. As part of ongoing efforts to support employees, Transportation and Parking is implementing a new rate structure for the upcoming parking year that is based on an employee’s salary band. Employees earning under $64,000 per year (Band 1) will receive a 25 percent reduction on their parking permit fee, no matter where they park on campus.

Both Band 1 and Band 2 (earning $64,000 or more per year) employees who park at Scottsville Rd-Lot 24 will see a reduction in their permit fees. For the third year in a row, there will be no rate increase for offsite lots and remote lots.

The program expands the banded parking structure that is already implemented in some University lots. The main goals of the expanded program are to support employee recruitment and retention at the University, while offering an equitable approach to parking fees.

“We know it’s important to offer an employee parking program that is aligned with the University’s values,” says Jim Chodak, Director, Transportation and Parking Management. “With that in mind, advancing parking equity was a top priority for developing the new fee structure. This has been a long time coming, and we are happy to finally be able to offer this to permit holders.”

The Parking office will soon be sending emails and letters to remind employees about permit renewal. If you did not enroll in auto renewal and would like to purchase a permit, please follow the instructions below.
