A pre-placement health assessment is required of new University faculty and staff members who will have patient contact or will work in departments or positions where health assessments are mandated by law.

Onboarding Program

This onboarding program is mandatory for all new staff and those who have been rehired. Those employees changing from non-bargaining unit positions into bargaining unit positions will need to attend the session related to their bargaining unit. Faculty members may attend the general onboarding program upon request.

Policy on Minimum Standards for Programs for Minors and Children

All programs involving transfer of responsibility for supervision and control of minors and children from parents or guardians to the University (or to a third party permitted by contract to use University facilities for such programs) and meeting the further definitions in this section must comply with the minimum standards for such programs as defined by the University in this policy.

Time Management and Attendance Records

Orderly pay and benefits administration as well as compliance with state and federal regulations require that a record of actual hours worked be maintained on a daily basis for all nonexempt (hourly-paid) staff. Accurate records of paid non-work time (with the exception of sick time, unless it is the beginning of a disability) must also be maintained for exempt (salaried) staff.

Short-Term Disability Plan

Policy Number: 339

The Short-Term Disability pays all or part of basic salary for an eligible individual who is absent from work for a period exceeding 7 calendar days due to an illness or disability that is not related to the job and which prevents the individual from performing University duties and responsibilities.

The University is required by law, when served with an income execution, wage assignment, family court support order, or federal tax levy against a faculty or staff member, to make deductions from the individual's wages until the debt has been satisfied, or as otherwise required by the order.

Leaves of Absence

The University of Rochester provides two types of Leaves of Absence for employees. University Leave of Absence May provide employees with up to 12 months’ unpaid leave for reasons such as education, dependent or elder care, or community service.
