In October 1997, Horton Medical Center's Diabetes Treatment Center in Middletown, N.Y., was dedicated in honor of Stanley Dunkelman '52, '56M (Res), for his pioneering leadership in the care and treatment of individuals with diabetes. The center offers a comprehensive program of diabetes education, clinical, and support services in the mid-Hudson region. . . . Sanford Spraragen '52M (Mas), '56M (MD) (see '83 undergraduate).
Michael Sporn (MD) received the 21st annual Bristol-Myers Squibb Award for Distinguished Achievement in Cancer Research. Sporn, the Oscar M. Cohen Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology and of Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School, received the $50,000 award and a silver medallion for his pioneering work in drug treatment that seeks to arrest or reverse the progression of early stage cancer.
John Richert (MD) is professor and chair of the department of microbiology and immunology, as well as professor of neurology, at Georgetown University Medical Center.
Bob Guinter (MD) wrote: "Both of our boys are getting married this summer (Scott on May 30 and Brian on June 13). My wife, Dee, and I plan to drop out of sight for a while after the weddings. We've published a perpetual calendar called Pray for Your Child. The calendar gives a verse of scripture and suggested prayer topic related to children and/or parenting for each day of the year. On the professional side, I have been in the private practice of pediatrics for 20-plus years and I serve as chief of pediatrics at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis."

Howard Sohnen (MD) has been appointed chief of obstetrics and gynecology for Seton Health System in Troy, N.Y.
Joseph Levine (MD) was elected to the board of directors of Yeshiva College. Levine directs the Arrhythmia and Pacemaker Center at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, N.Y., and is also an assistant professor of physiology at the University of Pennsylvania.
Li-Jane Ling (Mas) e-mails a "hello" to all her friends. She is on sabbatical at Otago University in New Zealand.
Cynthia McGuire Dunn '81RC, '85M (MD) was featured in an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education's March 20, 1998, issue concerning drug testing. Dunn works at Rochester's Clinical Research Institute.
C. Craig Blackmore (MD), assistant professor of radiology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, has received one of three GE Medical SystemsAssociation of University Radiologists Radiology Research Academic Fellowships awarded in 1998. Blackmore's research project is on Cost Effectiveness Analysis of Radiographic Screening of the Cervical Spine in Low Risk Trauma Patients.
Diane Hartmann '87M (MD), '91M (Res) was selected to participate in the first Educational Scholars Development Program offered by the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) and Solvay Pharmaceuticals. The program is a first-ever comprehensive educational curriculum designed to help obstetrics and gynecology professors teach women's health more effectively.
Chandra Louise (MS), '93M (PhD) has written Jump Start Your Career in BioScience, a book designed to give scientists a basic understanding of how the work world functions and how to translate that knowledge into different career opportunities in the biological and biomedical sciences.
Samuel Sanguedolce (MS) married Mary Stryjewski last March at Corpus Christi Church in Mineola, N.Y. The couple honeymooned in St. Lucia.
Kenneth Whittemore, Jr. married Stephanie Kreuzer on May 31, 1997, at Holy Ghost Church in Gates, N.Y. The couple have a son, Corey, 6.
