SPRING WRAP-UP

New standards for excellence were established for a number of sports in the spring season with national playoff appearances, All-American athletes, and conference championships.

Women's Tennis: Rochester made its inaugural team appearance in the NCAA Division III National Championships, losing, 9-0, to Williams College in the first round. The team finished the season at 15-5, tying the school record for victories. It was the third straight year that Rochester was represented on the national slate--individuals were selected to the championships in 1998 and 1999.

Women's Lacrosse: Kareen Kreutziger '00 was named a Second Team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, the first national women's lacrosse All-American in school history. Kreutziger also repeated as a First Team Academic All-American and an IWLCA Scholar-Athlete. Rochester finished 9-6, 4-2 (second place) in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association. Kreutziger finished third in scoring with 28 goals and six assists for 34 points. She was named a Regional All-American by the IWLCA along with Jessica Lerman '02 and Jenny Rogers '02.

Golf: The team made its first NCAA appearance since 1996, finishing 21st in team scoring. Chris Horgan '02, who was 18th individually at NCAAs, earned Third Team All-America honors. Rochester finished second at the UAA Championships. Horgan was the individual runner-up. He is the 13th Yellowjacket golfer to earn All-America honors.

Men's Tennis: The Yellowjackets won the UCAA Championship, defeating Skidmore College, 4-3, in the final by rallying from a 3-1 deficit. Steve Danishevsky '00, Brad Krauz '02, and Alec Shtromandel '02 won consecutive matches for the title. The Yellowjackets were 12-9 overall.

Men's Outdoor Track & Field: The 4-by-400-meter relay team was nearly unbeatable. Counting the indoor season, the relay runners won 13 of 15 races, including the UAA and New York State championships. Sprinter Jon Coyles '01 broke a 21-year-old school record in the 400-meter run, topping John Zabrodsky's 1979 time by one-hundredth of a second.

Women's Outdoor Track & Field: The Yellowjackets were fifth at the UAA Championships. Jodi House '00 and Tarah Street '00 were multiple-event scorers.

Baseball: Eight players earned All-UCAA honors in a 14-20 season. The Yellowjackets finished with a flourish, winning 11 of the last 13. Bill Rasmussen was named First Team All-UAA, First Team All-UCAA, and Third Team All-New York Region.

Softball: Seven players were named All-UCAA in a 10-27 season. Allison Shifflet '01 was named Second Team All-UCAA and Second Team All-UAA. Kristy Krivickas '02 was named Second Team All-UAA and Honorable Mention All-UCAA.
