Children Get ‘Jumpstart’

PAGE-TURNER: Gordon Chang ’06 reads to children
last fall. |
Preschool children in Rochester are getting a boost in reading and other skills,
thanks to 20 University students who are taking part in a national enrichment
and literacy program that opened its first area site last fall. Known as Jumpstart,
the national enrichment and literacy program pairs undergraduates with preschoolers
for at least 10 hours a week. The one-on-one tutoring prepares the children
for kindergarten and helps students earn money for college through the work-study
program.
