Gibbs Street
Miller Center Makes Debut
Music legend and Eastman School alumnus Mitch Miller ’32E has a new place
to call “home” on Gibbs Street.
Last fall, the Eastman School formally dedicated Eastman Place, a building
at 25 Gibbs Street that houses the Sibley Music Library, school administrative
offices, a restaurant, and several businesses, to the memory of Miller’s
parents, Abram Calmen and Hinda Rosenblum Miller. The building has been renamed
the Miller Center.
A classical oboist, Miller enjoyed a successful career as a record company
executive, a network TV star, and a symphonic and pops conductor.
The Miller Center is the latest in an initiative to give Gibbs Street a more
cohesive feel as the Eastman School’s downtown campus. Last spring, the
school bought a building at 10 Gibbs Street, which will house the Eastman Community
Music School and administrative offices of the school.
